Dark green jade disc. Dark green manasi jade from Hetian was in common use during the Ming period for making belt hooks but apparently jade flower discs were also carved from the same material. This one is slightly smaller and thinner than the other dark green one in the Lowlands-collection (Quick Find 3750) and its side has been bevelled which is quite unusual for flower discs. The disc entered the collection in 2024 from Spain. This type of flower is not depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art ‘.
