Small chop which is nicely carved except for the inscription which reads 'shou' (Longevity) in a very simple engraving. We have more chops with this simple character from the same source which makes us believe that they came from a dealer who had them inscribed to make them more commercial. But we are not sure about this. The chop was acquired in 2013 and dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 - 1912). Length 1.35 cm. Width 1.29 cm. Height 1.33 cm. Weight 3.8 grams. The chop originally belonged to Rudolph Voll (1911-2009) who acquired it in the 1970’s in Hong Kong. For further information about Rudolph Voll see Quick Find 4167.
