Charming carving depicting a sage looking at a waterfall against a backdrop of an old pine tree and a pavilion. It is apparently night as the moon is also depicted. The carving is a modern production made from a somewhat dull greyish green jade and we acquired it in 2012. The Chinese seller in America claimed that it is made of Hetian jade but we strongly doubt this. We assume that the material possibly came from Canada or America which was later on carved in China. Nevertheless it is a charming object made in accordance with the old Chinese tradition of depicting sages in mountainous landscapes. The back side shows a rather crudely carved house. Length 21 cm. Height 10 cm. Depth 5.5 cm.
