Unusually large sedan chair. This kind of litter was used to transport dignitaries and wealthy people. It could be closed off completely to protect the 'important' people from the prying eyes of the mob in the streets. This one has an interesting cold painted chair inside which still has the original color red. And it has also a sun roof which would shield the occupant from the sun. Four strong men would carry the sedan chair on long poles which would be attached on both sides. Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644). Height 27.5 cm. Width 16 cm. Depth 24 cm.
