Silk money purse with very fine embroidery in ‘Peking’ stitch. It was embroidered with auspicious symbols such as a Mouth organ and a Lotus flower which means ‘May you continuously rise in rank’ (liansheng), a Lotus flower in a Box ‘Harmony and Unity’ (Hehe) because they are the attributes of the two Immortals known as the Heavenly Twins. The Ruyi scepter means ‘As you wish’ and the Brush is a pun for the adverb ‘surely’ or ‘certainly’ (bi). The purse has never been used and is still brand new. It dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 14.3 cm. Width 8.6 cm
