Red and black colored, hand-carved, wooden sewing box which is decorated with flowers and foliage. It has a drawer on each side which originally moved back into the box automatically as the drawers were connected by a rubber band. Each drawer closes with a sliding lid to prevent needles and other items from falling out. The sewing box is an unusual object and dates from the end of the Qing period (1644 – 1912). Length 24.5 cm.
