Silver tongue scraper which is embellished with a sour-looking person within a heart and two fruits which look like cherries. The heart was not a Chinese symbol but may have become popular in China as a result of Western influences. And as far as we know cherries do not appear in Chinese symbolism either. So for the time being the decoration of this tongue scraper remains an enigma. It dates from the end of the Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Total length including chain 23.5 cm. Scraper: Length 11 cm. Width 3.4 cm. Depth 0.4 cm.
