Beautifully carved disc in the shape of a Peony flower symbolizing Wealth & Honor. It always surprises us that many of these large discs have natural cracks. This is the result of a shortage of good material during the end of the Ming period (1368 – 1644 AD). During the Qing period (1644 – 1912 AD) the Silk Road became again safe to travel and the amount of good quality jade increased tremendously. This disc has the usual eight overlapping petals and a Yin Yang symbol on its back. Two pin-sized holes have been drilled into the rim for additional attachment. This type of flower is not depicted in professor Cheng Te-k’un’s book ‘Jade Flowers and Floral Patterns in Chinese Decorative Art ‘.
