Gilt silver and enameled hat ornament in the shape of Shou Lao, the God of Longevity. He is sitting on a cloud base. Apart from being a sign of Immortality, clouds also symbolize the ‘Granting of all wishes’. On his belly is a depiction of a Ruyi head which symbolizes the ‘Granting of all wishes’. The ornament is marked on the back Yun Qing (雲慶) who may have been the silversmith or retailer. It dates from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947). Height 4.3 cm. Width 2.4 cm. Depth 2.2 cm.
