Porcelain candle stand in the shape of a drum. It is very nicely decorated with Chinese characters, flowers and two Butterflies, symbolic for Marital Fidelity, Blessings and Happiness so it was quite possibly a wedding gift. The decoration is done with a dark cobalt blue which dates it to around 1900. It has received some small, hardly visible, bumps during its long life of use but it is still in a remarkably good condition. Height 8.2 cm. Diameter 8.0 cm. The candle stand has changed hands and now forms part of collection in Oakland, California.
