Storage jar with a landscape – (3975)
[3975]

Porcelain storage jar decorated in blue and white with houses in a mountainous landscape. Two figures on a river bank seem to be in conversation and sailing boats ply the river. These food containers were exported from China in large numbers during the 18th and 19th centuries and are commonly known as ginger jars. Very often their porcelain lids are missing as in this case. The quality of the painting leads us to believe that this jar dates from the early Qing period (1644 – 1912). It has been turned into a lamp which gives a very pleasing effect. Height jar 22 cm. Diameter 20 cm.
