Covered bed – (0383)
[0383]

Massive miniature pottery bed of a type which was popular during the Ming dynasty but which continued to be made well into the 20th century. In fact it is a bed within a roofed bed space. This type of wooden bed had a door opening and latticed ‘windows’. Inside were fixed seats on both sides in front of the bed. The bed is glazed in an aubergine and light blue color. The roof and the back are unglazed. Interesting are the color differences on the unglazed roof which suggest that other funerary objects were placed there. The glaze has some fritters which is not unusual with this color of glaze as aubergine and light blue are more fragile than the usual green and amber glazes. The bed dates from the Ming period (1368 – 1644). Width 33.1 cm. Height 33.3 cm. Depth 19.6 cm. Depth including overhang 23.5 cm. THIS ITEM WAS SOLD AT AUCTION IN 2022.
