Stunning miniature pottery sedan chair which is glazed in green and brown. Inside is a seat for the occupant. Sedan chairs were used by rich and influential people. In the old days the city streets were not paved and often dirty and muddy. Wooden poles were inserted through the loops on each side of the sedan chair and four or more bearers would carry it anywhere the owner wanted to go. This one is quite special as it has a very nice pagoda-type roof. Inside the roof support beams are visible. The sedan chair is in excellent condition and dates from the Ming period (1368 – 1644). Height 24 cm. Width & depth chair 9.2 x 7.3 cm. Width & depth roof 13 x 10.9 cm. THIS ITEM WAS SOLD AT AUCTION IN 2022.
