Three well-carved lacquered wooden panels depicting boys at play. The panels are gilded and have openwork sides showing Acanthus leaves which stand for Good Luck & Happiness (ji xiang ru yi - 吉祥如意). The boys of course symbolize a wish for many sons and it is therefore plausible that the panels once formed part of a wedding bed. They date from the late Qing (1644 – 1912) to the early Republic period (1912 – 1947).
