Amulet in the shape of shoes – (6391)
[6391]

Wooden amulet shaped as a pair of men’s shoes. It is not a toggle as there is no hole for attachment to the belt. Shoes (xie 鞋), because of an identical pronunciation of the word ‘with’ (xie 谐) or ‘Together with’ (xie 偕), are used in combination with other objects to express ‘in Harmony’. They also symbolize ‘Wealth’. The amulet dates from the late Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912). Length 3.9 cm. Width 2.5 cm. Height 1.6 cm.
