Hehe Erxian, the Heavenly Twins – (4341)

Hand-made miniature carved from the kernel of a Chinese ‘gânlan’ fruit, a very hard material. The carving depicts the 'Heavenly Twins' (Hehe Erxian). One twin is named Shi De (拾得) and the other one Han Shan (寒山). They symbolize Harmony and Cheerfulness and bestow Blessings on marriages. One of the two has a Box and a Lotus flower next to him which symbolize Harmony & Unity (Hehe). The other twin holds a Ruyi scepter which stands for ‘Everything you wish for will materialize’. The clouds surrounding the twins have the same meaning, ‘The granting of all wishes’. The Bamboo in the carving symbolizes Humility, Fidelity as well as Peace and the Pine Tree represents Longevity. The carving which is not signed most probably dates from the latter part of the 20th century. Length 3.0 cm. Diameter 1.7 cm.
