Toad on a coin - (6720)
[6720]

Small amulet retaining part of the skin (rind) of the pebble from which it was carved. It shows the three legged toad of Liu Hai on a coin. Liu Hai is a popular young Daoist God, who is traditionally depicted with a three legged toad and a string of cash. He distracted the toad from releasing poison by luring him away with the coins. This amulet therefore has the subtle message that money can lure men to ruin. It dates from the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1912). Height 3.1 cm. Width 2.4 cm. Depth 0.4 cm. Weight 5.8 grams.
