Two sheep - (6511)
[6511]

Interesting carving of two sheep. The carver tries to deceive the eye by creating a rough surface and by staining the item with brown dye. This creates an impression as if the item is still in its original pebble shape and that the details of the two sheep were added later with only a minimum of carving. Carvings like this were specifically liked as fondling pieces by scholars in the 18th century, but we have the feeling that this item was made at a later date. It was added to the collection in Hong Kong in 1987. Length 4.2 cm. Width 3.4 cm. Height 2.2 cm. Weight 41.3 grams.
